How Much Does Field Service Software Cost?

Field service software suppliers bill their customers on a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, which means you pay a monthly fee to use the software.

Some providers offer very basic packages for free to businesses with one to two employees. But generally, the bigger your workforce, the more sophisticated field service management features you’ll need, so prices are likely to rise as your business grows.

Average field service software prices start from $34 per month for a business with up to three employees on the system, to $158 per month for up to six employees, to $199 per month for up to ten employees, and so on.

What Does Field Service Software Do?

Field service software can help you manage your workforce, communicate with employees and customers, assess productivity and efficiency, and more. Its key features include:

  • Work order management, enabling you to digitize, send, and distribute the work orders your employees need to complete the day’s jobs.
  • Scheduling and dispatch, usually via a digital calendar where you can drop jobs onto certain dates and assign them to employees. The software can automatically notify members of your workforce when they’re given a job or their schedule changes.
  • Inventory management, tracking your inventory levels and automatically reordering key parts or equipment when you’re running low.
  • Storing customers’ details so you can keep them in the loop about the service they’ve booked, and send them marketing emails or messages. Some systems can integrate with CRM (customer relationship management) software to supercharge your customer comms.
  • Generating digital invoices and quotes for customers. Your employees will be able to do this while with a customer, using their smartphone or tablet. Some field service software systems enable your workforce to take mobile payments on the spot.
  • GPS tracking, so your team knows how to reach their jobs, your customers know when they’re on their way, and you know when they’ve arrived.
  • Reporting on your sales performance, service plans, and job performance, so you can use this data to improve the way you work and plan for the future.
What Are the Different Types of Field Service Software?

Not every field service software system is the same, and you’ll find that there are a few additional varieties designed for different primary uses.

For example, dispatch software focuses mainly on the job scheduling and dispatching functionality, without the other features that typically come in a full field service package. Pool service software is uniquely equipped to help pool and spa maintenance technicians, with automated chemical measurements and usage calculations. Meanwhile, integrated fleet management and field service software combines the benefits of the former with those of the latter.
