The system is certainly user friendly – but what we’re most impressed by is the technical innovation that powers it. In short, Movolytics does things differently. Rather than using standard GPS, for example, it draws speed and distance data directly from each vehicle’s engine. In fact, much of its tech is so unique as to be patented.

Firstly, Movolytics’ patented algorithm analyses over 150 driving manoeuvres and compound events (that’s more than any other system out there!) across four categories: acceleration, braking, cornering, and gear use. 

When a driver does something that the system recognises as negative, it’ll be logged – and used to build a behaviour profile and safety score for each driver. You’ll be able to see which drivers are best, which are worst, and who has improved the most.

What’s more, Movolytics can help you keep on top of your fleet’s safety and efficiency in real-time, with email/SMS alerts:

• When a driver does something that puts safety at risk

The system tracks every journey, showing each address that was stopped at, arrival times, how long was spent at each address, and departure times. Handily, Movolytics’ timesheets also show how many miles each driver travelled, how much fuel they used, how much that fuel cost you as a business.

How much does Movolytics cost?

Handily, Movolytics charges just two distinct monthly fees – and they’re both nice and cheap. The Movolytics price you’ll be faced with depends on whether you opt for plug-and-play tracking devices or hardwired tracking devices: 

If you’re looking to spend as little as possible, you’re in luck: Movolytics’ starting price of £7.49 per vehicle, per month is the cheapest starting price we encountered during the entirety of our research! If you’d prefer hardwired tracking devices, £14.49 isn’t likely to break the bank, either.

Despite this, though, Movolytics only scored a modest 5.3 out of 10 in our cost analysis. That’s because – although it offers incredibly cheap prices – Movolytics only rents its tracking hardware out to you rather than giving you the option to purchase it, meaning you miss out on owning that valuable asset. Plus, while Movolytics does offer a free product demo to potential customers, it doesn’t offer a free trial – so you won’t get the chance to test the system out on your own fleet before signing up to a contract.

Considering that timesheets are such an important consideration for construction industry fleets – most construction businesses pay their drivers according to the hours logged on their timesheets, after all – Movolytics is a great option for you. With its accurate and detailed automated timesheets, Movolytics helps make paying construction fleet drivers properly easy.

“My fleet operates in the transportation industry”

Market-leading fuel monitoring capabilities make Movolytics a strong contender for transportation industry fleets, for which fuel costs can be such a burden. Using the comprehensive fuel reporting we discussed earlier, you’ll be empowered to cut back on your fuel use and so save some much-needed cash.

While Movolytics collects a big range of data that populates numerous reports, it also enables you to check up on the most important data in one place – via its ‘one-stop report’. This report gives an at-a-glance view of all the numbers that matter most to your business, such as:

• Miles travelled
• Fuel spend
• CO2 emissions
• Speeding events
• True idle time

“I want to ensure my vehicles are safe from theft”

As we mentioned earlier, Movolytics logs details of every journey your vehicles make. So, if a vehicle is stolen, you’ll have a record of where it’s been and where it currently is. You can also get alerts when a vehicle is driven outside of your normal business hours, so if anything fishy happens during that time, at least, you’ll know about it.

Of course, if the vehicle’s tracker is removed by the thief (an extra easy undertaking if you’ve opted for Movolytics’ plug-and-play devices), you’ll find yourself stuck without any of this info. While some vehicle tracking systems – including Samsara and RAM Tracking – can alert you as and when a tracker is removed from a vehicle, Movolytics doesn’t do this, and so it could be a while before you even realise that there’s thievery afoot.

We’d say that, while Movolytics does have a couple of features that can help in the case of theft, it’s not the safest option if you want watertight security.

What do Movolytics’ customer reviews say?

Oddly, online customer reviews for Movolytics are actually quite difficult to come by. The company doesn’t have a presence on the most popular user review sites, like Trustpilot – in fact, the only customer reviews we could find were Google reviews, and (as of this writing) there are only 33 of those. But these reviews do give some really positive insights: more than two thirds of them (22) rate Movolytics as a five-star system.

It has to be pointed out, though, that a member of the Movolytics team has posted a lengthy response to this, detailing the company’s efforts to communicate with the reviewer and solve their problems (including by creating a bespoke report just for them).

Overall, Movolytics comes off well out of the exchange, and so we’re hesitant to judge the company harshly based on this review.

Expert verdict

With a solid focus on driver behaviour and safety, as well as truly market-leading fuel consumption monitoring, Movolytics is a really good bet for businesses that want to keep operations tight and cut costs (think fuel, insurance, and accident repairs). Plus, its automated timesheets make it a great option for construction fleets.

In addition, the system is super cheap, and very user friendly – though you’ll need to bear in mind that you won’t be able to purchase your own vehicle tracking devices: they’ll always simply be leased to you.

As flaws go, Movolytics’ key weaknesses are that it’s somewhat lacking in theft prevention features, and that it doesn’t monitor cargo temperature – so think carefully if these functionalities take priority for you.
